Iagree with you that culture plays an important role in this piece of Shengs work whereby shetries to intertwine Asian and Western culture. Each culture is revealed in the piece when at thebeginning it begins with Asian culture then followed by Western cultural rhythms in the secondpart. I agree with you that this is not an easy way to base a piece with an inspiration from twocultures and yet Sheng does not manage to degrade either culture.
