There are several types offalse confessions that is, instrumental coerced, instrumental voluntary, internalized coerced andinternalized voluntary. Instrumental coerced this normally occurs due to long intenseinterrogations, the interviewee agrees to have committed the crime despite having not done it.The suspect is convinced that the only way they can be let go or get a better treatment is toconfess. An example can be seen in the central park five cases where the five youths hadconfessed because they had been coerced and intimidated by the police officers.Instrumental voluntary is the other type of false confession. In this case, the suspectagrees to have committed the crime when they fully know that they did not. Normally they havea goal that they are seeking to achieve (Costanzo and Leo, 2007). For instance, John Mark Karrconfessed in 2006 confessed to the murder of Ramsey in the Wolf v. Ramsey case fully knowingthat he did not commit the crime. The third type of a fal ...
